The Archaeological Museum of Messinia is in the historic center of Kalamata and is housed in the building of the Old Municipal Market.

According to the Museum’s website, the aim of the exhibition is the most complete presentation of the antiquities of Messinia over time, i.e., from Prehistoric times to the Byzantine era.

Following the old geographical division of the prefecture into four provinces, Kalamata, Messina, Pylia and Trifylia, the exhibition develops in respective large geographical units with representative findings, coming either from excavations, surface surveys or even from citizens’ findings.
